our mission statement
is to represent Modern India as:

  • A rapidly modernising country which is adjusting to its new found status as a global power.
  • A country where rapidly evolving industries are driving the country forward.
  • A hotbed of entrepreneurialism from the individual to a multinational scale.
  • A country which is not following but now leading by example.
  • A country which is proud of its culture and heritage and continues to embrace these.

about the project

India, soon to be the most populous country
on earth is a tale of many cities.

Since the turn of the millennium its economy has been expanding at a rate of nearly 10% each year, a figure likely to continue over the next decade. There is an excitement growing about what is being achieved and what great promises the future holds.

With the economic transformation of the country, a new brand of Indian modernism is evolving; infiltrating every class, culture and geographical region in its own unique way.

However, despite the remarkable changes which are happening in the country, these are poorly documented to the outside world. The international media's coverage of India still portrays a polarised picture of the country (most recently the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and the film Slumdog Millionaire) or a simplistic vision of pockets of development overshadowed by the classic problems of underdevelopment.

This is Modern India (TIMI) was established as an antidote to this - to create, reflect and promote a more accurate living vision of India in the 21st century to the outside world.

Working in official partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), we are a using a powerful mixture of photography, audio-visual and multimedia tools to document the country's economic, social and cultural transformation.

TIMI is also creating a worldwide network of business community, academics, social entrepeneurs and the public at large through the creation of an India focused social network and a series of conferences.
